Featured Candidate - Michael Gothard
Constable Michael Gothard started his law enforcement career as a Reserve Deputy with Constable Pct. 3 in August, 1985, after attending the Criminal Justice Academy at the Texas A&M University System for a Basic Reserve Officers certificate. In March, 1986, he became a full-time Deputy with Constable Pct. 3 and attended the Dallas County Sheriff's Academy and graduated on December 19, 1986.
After graduation, he did a 3 month ride-along with the Garland Police Department to see the different types of law enforcement and for more on-the-street training. After that, he was assigned to the Civil Division of the Constable Pct. 3 office, and eventually was placed in the Warrant Division.
In August, 1995, he was promoted to Sergeant and served in that capacity until January 16, 2001, when he was unanimously appointed by the Dallas County Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of retiring Constable Don Ashlock.
On January 1, 2003, he was elected Constable of what is now Pct. 2 (after redistricting), and has served the citizens of Pct. 2 with integrity and pride.
Constable Gothard has reduced his budget by over $600.000.00 in the last 2 years and has been under budget by an additional $270,000.00 over the past 4 years.
Constable Gothard’s office has been ranked in the top 2 with the highest service rate in Dallas County for 6 of 8 years. His office also works hard to take felons off the streets and to collect money owed to Dallas County.
It has been a great privilege and honor for Constable Gothard to serve the residents of Garland, Rowlett, Sachse, Mesquite, Sunnyvale, and Balch Springs for the past 9 years.
