Featured Candidate - Robert Fillmore
Justice Fillmore was appointed to the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals by Governor Rick Perry on May 6, 2009. His appointment to the bench was confirmed by a unanimous Texas Senate on May 28, 2009.
Legal Experience: Justice Fillmore has over 30 years of legal experience in public service and private practice. At the time of his appointment, Bob was a partner in the Dallas office of the law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP. He practiced at the firm and its predecessor for 23 years, focusing on regulatory litigation. For a number of years he was Co-Head of the Hunton & Williams Regulated Industries and Government Relations Practice. Earlier in his career, Justice Fillmore served as an Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant Attorney General of Kansas.
Academic Experience: Justice Fillmore is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, teaching regulatory law and policy. Earlier in his career, Bob was an adjunct faculty member of the University of Kansas School of Law, teaching a course on trial advocacy.
Service to the Bar: Justice Fillmore is a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation. He is a former Chairman of the Public Utility Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Bob is also a former Chairman of the Special Committee on Restructuring of the Electric Industry, American Bar Association Section on Environment, Energy and Resources.
Personal: Bob and his wife Judy have been married for 33 years. Judy is a retired teacher, having served both the Plano and Carrollton-Farmers Branch public school systems. Bob and Judy have two daughters, Katie and Chrissie. Katie is a recent law school graduate and Chrissie is senior in college. Bob and Judy are members of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano.
