Featured Candidate - Lisa DeWitt

For the past twenty five years in her legal career, Lisa DeWitt has served in every professional role in the criminal justice system.  She has the balance and breadth of experience to be a fair judge and effective leader of the 292nd Judicial District Court.

A native of Dallas, Lisa graduated from W. W. Samuell High School where the class motto was Paratum per Officio-preparation through service.  While working full time at the City of Dallas, she earned a Basic Reserve Officer Certificate from the Dallas Police Academy, a Basic Police Officer Certificate from Texas A& M and graduated cum laude from Abilene Christian University at Dallas in just five years.

Lisa worked in the McLennan County Jail while attending Baylor University Law where she graduated in 1984.  After graduation and marriage, she practiced general law in Central Texas until appointed Bosque County Attorney in 1986.  She returned to Dallas in 1989 to serve the other side of the criminal docket as a Dallas County Public Defender.  While serving in this capacity, she was the victim of a violent felony crime. 

Lisa DeWitt has tried hundreds of cases throughout her career.  In sole private practice since 1993, she has always found time to serve her community.  She has served on the Dallas County Grand Jury several times, and has twice been appointed foreman.  She has been on the School Board at St. Bernard of Clairvaux School where she coached youth sports and is a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance.  She is currently a board member of the Enclave at White Rock Home Owners’ Association.  

Lisa is a member of the prestigious State Bar College.  Committed to learning, she earned a Mediation Certificate from Southern Methodist University in 2006 and completed advanced studies in dispute resolution and conflict management.  Prepared through education and service, Lisa DeWitt is ready to serve the citizens of Dallas County as Judge of the 292nd Judicial District Court.
