Since October 24, 2002, Justice Lang has served as one of 13 Justices on the Court of Appeals, 5th District of Texas at Dallas. His practice began as a briefing attorney at the Supreme Court of Missouri immediately after his graduation from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in May, 1972. Prior to law school, he graduated from Drake University in 1969 with a degree in Business Administration. Justice Lang began his Dallas practice in June, 1973 and was a trial partner in the firm of Gardere Wynne Sewell L.L.P. Licensed in Missouri (1972) and Texas (1973), Justice Lang concentrated in the area of complicated business litigation, trying law suits in state and federal courts.
Justice Lang and his wife of over 32 years, Martha, have three sons, all of whom have graduated from college in the last six years.
Justice Lang has been active in community and bar association activities, serving as President of several associations including the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers in 1977, the Dallas Bar Association in 1991, the Texas Association of Bank Counsel in 1996-97, the Wm. AMac@ Taylor Inn of Court in 1999, and the National Conference of Bar Presidents in 2004-05. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas which recognized him as Outstanding Third Year Director. Also, he has served as Chair of several entities including the Dallas Bar Foundation, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, and Legal Services of North Texas, Inc. Currently, he serves as Chair of the Board of the Drake University National Alumni Association, member of the Board of Trustees and Vice Chair-Athletic Affairs of Drake University, and member of the Board of Trustees of the American Inns of Court Foundation.
His civic activities have included service as Chair of his church’s building committee, vice chair of the Anglican School of Theology in Dallas, member of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas Executive Committee, and Boy Scout troop leader.
Justice Lang has frequently spoken at seminars and bar association gatherings across the country and published papers on legal issues and professionalism topics. An article by Justice Lang on the topic of professionalism in the legal profession was published recently in the South Texas Law Review. 42 S. TX. L. REV. 509. Also, he is a member of the American Law Institute.
In 1992 Justice Lang was honored by his undergraduate university, Drake University, with an Alumni Achievement Award and again in 1993 with the university=s Double D Award, an award which recognizes successful former athletic letter winners. In 1981, he was named Outstanding Young Lawyer in Dallas and in 1999, he received the President=s Citation from the State Bar of Texas for his service to the Bar. |
