Judge Manny Alvarez was appointed State District Judge to Criminal District Court No. 5 in 1995 by then Governor George W. Bush. Judge Alvarez has been serving the citizens of Dallas County for 11 plus years by presiding over felony offenses such as sexual assault, robbery, murder, including death penalty cases. According to the annual Judicial Bar polls, he is consistently regarded as hardworking, fair and knowledgeable when it comes to the law.
Judge Alvarez is certified in judicial studies by the Texas Center for the Judiciary, receiving constant high marks in the Judicial Bar polls and endorsed by the Committee for a Qualified Judiciary. In the recent Bar preference poll, Judge Alvarez was the overwhelming favorite to his political opponent.
Judge Alvarez has lectured a t the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, as well as the State Bar of Texas. As a professor for the past 11 years teaching Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, he has continued to serve the legal community outside the courtroom. Experience and a passion for the law defines this Judge.
On a more personal note, Judge Alvarez has been married to Elizabeth Alvarez for 13 years. They have a 10-year-old son named Nicholas. The Alvarez family are active members of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where Judge Alvarez coaches the fifth grade soccer team.
