Did you know that Dallas County is number one in drunken-driving related deaths in the country?
Did you know that millions of dollars are lost every year by businesses and individuals victimized by shoplifters, car burglars and thieves?
Would you like to do something about it?
I do, and I will.
Vote for me, Jennifer Balido, for Judge of County Criminal Court Number Six.
For the past 14 years, I have been in the trenches of the criminal court system, first as an Assistant District Attorney and then as a criminal defense attorney and public defender. I have tried over 120 misdemeanor and felony jury trials and authored and argued over 20 appeals. I have handled every kind of criminal case from traffic tickets to capital murder cases in which the State is seeking the death penalty.
I have seen first hand what crime does to victims and their families. I have seen first hand how a life of crime hardens the heart of criminals, and leaves their families in despair. I want to do something about it and that is why I am running for Judge.
County Criminal Court #6 is a place where I know I can make a daily impact in the lives of the people who come before me. Although these misdemeanor cases are not as serious as felonies, they are no less important to the safety of our families. For those defendants that plead guilty or are found guilty in trial, my goal will be to try to stop their criminal behavior before it gets more serious. For the potential felons, I will show them that prison is not a place they want to be. For the “serial misdemeanants” who commit the same misdemeanor over and over again, I will punish them for the crimes they continue to commit while keeping an eye out for what is causing the repetitive behavior, for example drug addition or mental illness. Finally, the “citizen-defendant” convicted of Driving While Intoxicated will be punished to the full extent of the law and I will use every tool available--ignition interlock, breathalyzer, ankle bracelet or global tracking device--to make sure they do not drink and get behind the wheel of a car. The safety of our families depends on it.
It is for these reasons that people like Roger Staubach and former Ambassador Nancy Brinker are supporting me in this race. I have been endorsed by the Dallas Police Association, and I am the only candidate in this race to be endorsed “As Qualified” by the Committee for a Qualified Judiciary. I recently won the Dallas Bar Association Judicial Preference Poll with almost 70% of the vote.
But the only endorsement that matters to me is your vote. That’s why I ask you to vote for me in November, Republican Jennifer Balido for Judge of County Criminal Court #6.
